A. Purpose:
  Georgia Christian University is an educational institution to glorify God by equipping students who will proclaim God¡¯s Word and to build up the body of Christ through education. GCU seeks to maintain an appropriate balance between training for effective vocational ministries and academics.
Master¡¯s Degree Program standard at Georgia Christian University is in alignment with the guideline of the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ACAOM). GCU¡¯s Oriental Medicine Program which requires at least four years in length after at least two years of accredited postsecondary education develops student ability to care patients and enhance learning
B. Objectives:
 

The primary objective of School of Oriental Medicine at Georgia Christian University is to cultivate compatible herb doctors and oriental medicine practitioners equipped with knowledge and clinical competence.
Continual studies and clinical experiments by GCU¡¯s exceptional teaching staff and research structure at top-notch facility shall modernize the field of Oriental Medicine and further contribute to the society in needs of gaining a mix of theoretical and practical knowledge and skill.

C. DEGREE TENDERED:
 

When successfully complete 4-year academic curriculum at GCU, graduates will receive Master¡¯s Degree in Oriental Medicine, with which candidates are qualified to apply for a Certification by The National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine.
Certification Examinations are given three times a year in February, July, and November by The National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine.

Description A survey of the history and development/changes of healing systems, with emphasis on Oriental models of each period in contrast to Western approaches, and exploring the future development.

Dept OM Number 102 Title Basic Theory of Oriental Medicine
Description An orientation to Oriental medicine and introduction to the concepts of yang and ying, 5 elements, basic substances, organ physiology, etiological factors, 8 principles.

Dept AP Number 101 Title Basic Theory of Acupuncture
Description Introduction to the art and science of acupuncture, including major types of channels and major types of points, Detail study of channel pathways and acupuncture point locations of the Rent ion, Du, Lung, Large Intestine, Stomach, Heart, and Small Intestine meridians.

Dept AP Number 102 Title Meridian Theory
Description Introduction to the non-invasive touch and pressure to facilitate the flow of energy (qi) and to strengthen the body/mind, paying special attention to balancing the harmony of the body with the five element theory. This course is to introduce almost identical effects and benefits of acupuncture without needles.

Description A basic study of plant life, including plant morphology, A detailed study of approximately over 300 Chinese/Korean herbs, their classification, name, taste, properties, entering channel and indications, contraindications and preparation. Herb categories to be covered include: Warm Acrid Herbs that release the exterior, cool acrid herbs that release the exterior, herbs that clear heat, and downward draining herbs.

Description A study of the four traditional methods of Oriental diagnosis, including observation, auscultation/olfaction, inquiry and palpation. Study includes signs, symptoms, tongue analysis, and pulse analysis. Includes a one-hour practical session.

Description A detailed study of approximately over 300 Chinese/Korean herbs, their classification, name, taste, properties, entering channel and indications, contraindications and preparation, and a brief introduction to a few commonly used formulas category of herbs. Herb categories to be covered include: herbs that drain dampness, herbs that expel wind-dampness herbs that cool and transform phlegm heat, warn herbs that transform phlegm-cold, herbs that relieve coughing and wheezing, hers that expel phlegm by inducing vomiting, aromatic herbs that transform dampness, herbs that relieve food stagnation, herbs that regulate the Qi.

Dept CP Number 201 Title Clinical Practicum (100hrs)
Description In the second phase of the clinical training program, the students will begin to apply the theory and methods they have learned in the classroom and during the Clinical Practicum Program. The three emphases of Clinic Internship will be the interaction between the student practitioner and the patient, the development of a responsible treatment plan, and the practical application of basic treatment skills and techniques. Students will also develop diagnostic skills and gain experience in syndrome identification and formula application. Students will discuss cases with classmates and with the instructor.
